Ash + Ruin was born from the ashes of our former lives. Every day felt like the end of the world. A barrage of bad news, enmity, and fear. A different kind of apocalypse every morning. In the middle of a pandemic that broke our spirits, we craved something luxurious, ritualistic, and combustive. We set out to find the rhapsody in disaster. We make our candles slowly, by hand, in small batches, because we are humans and not powerful machines. We make them in Vermont, in a subterranean stone room built in the 19th century. It is dark and creepy and inhabited by many spiders. We are not here to sell you a solution to all your earthly problems. We are here to scent the apocalypse. |

Where are these candles made? Our candles are handmade in a 200-year-old stone basement in a small Vermont town by a probably-cursed mother-daughter duo with transgressive sensibilities and small, cold hands.

Every Ash + Ruin candle is made with organic coconut/soy wax and braided paper core wicks, the latter of which are designed to reduce mushrooming and smoking. Prior to lighting your candle, trim the wick to ¼” to encourage a completely clean burn.
The first time you light your candle, we encourage you to keep the flame lit until the entire surface of the candle has melted — this is the “melt pool.” Always keep your melt pool free of wick trimmings, debris or matches. A smaller melt pool, made by extinguishing your candle before the surface area has completely liquified, is not a disaster and should resolve itself by simply allowing your candle to burn longer next time. Repeated small melt pools may result in tunneling, which reduces the life of your candle.
Candles are meant to be lit on fire. This is inherently dangerous. Make sure you’re only burning candles on safe heat-resistant surfaces, away from anything flammable. Do not leave candles unattended or in the sole possession of a child, dog, spirit, or any other unaccompanied being. In general, it is recommended that candles burn for no more than four hours at a time.
Always keep your burning candle away from drafts, vents, and romantic, slow-wafting curtains.
For a margin of safety, once you have burned all but the last ¼” of wax it is time to retire your candle, commend it on a life well lived, and upcycle the glass vessel.
In the event of an apocalypse, please remain calm. If necessary, your Ash + Ruin candle may be used, in conjunction with the relevant invocations, to summon forces of immense power.

Orders, Shipping, Returns
We are currently accepting online orders through our website, where you are reading this very text. Once an order is received, we typically ship out your item(s) within 1-3 days.
Ash and Ruin currently ships to the Continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and to U.S. territories. Orders are shipped ground unless expedited shipping is selected during checkout.
We offer flat rate shipping at a cost of $7.00. Orders over $100 ship for free. Expedited shipping options are also available at checkout.
Our policy for returns is valid for 30 days after the date of your purchase.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the original packaging.
To return your candle, please email us at returns@ashandruin.com. Please note that you will be responsible for return shipping costs. We suggest packaging your candle in the original shipping box with padding to ensure safe delivery, and also please consider using a shipping service that provides tracking; candles that arrive damaged due to insufficient packaging will not be refunded.
Once we receive your return, we will notify you by email and process your refund. Typically, a processing time of up to 7 business days is required before a refund is posted.

From time to time, Content may be outdated, contain typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions, relating to the Services. We reserve the right to correct such errors, modify Content, update information, and cancel orders at any time, for any reason, without prior notice. We do not warrant that any errors in the Services will be corrected.
By using the Services, you agree that we are not responsible for third-party content, websites, products, or services, and are not liable for the content, websites, products, or services of any third-party, or any loss or damage that may be incurred by you as a result of accessing, browsing, or using third-party content, websites, services, or products. We have made every effort to display accurately the colors and images of our products on our Website. We cannot guarantee that the color of your display will be accurate. All products and prices are subject to change without notice at any time. All prices are displayed in U.S. dollars.
Some products may be available exclusively through the Website and such products may have limited quantities. We reserve the right to limit the sales or quantities of our products to any person for any reason. We reserve the right to discontinue any product at any time.
We may offer new products, services, and/or features through this Website. Such new products, services, and/or features shall also be subject to these Terms.
SECTION 4 - TERMS OF SALE
Placing an order constitutes your offer to purchase a product. By placing an order, you represent that (1) you are of legal age to form a binding contract, (2) any and all information you provide is complete and accurate, and (3) you are an authorized user of the payment method you provide.
An order confirmation does not constitute our acceptance of your offer or order. We retain the right to accept or decline any order, in part or in whole, for any reason. We retain the right to modify or limit some or all items in an order without prior notification. Any offer for any product or service is void where prohibited.
If the Website lists an incorrect price for an item ordered, we reserve the right to refuse or cancel such an order, regardless of whether the order was initially processed.
If payment has already been made when an order is canceled, we will credit your account in the amount paid.
Shipping and handling fees and applicable sales/use tax will be added as necessary.
SECTION 5 - RETURNS
All returns must be processed within 30 days of receiving the order. Please email returns@ashandruin.com with your order number to initiate a return or exchange. Please allow 3-5 business days for your refund to process after we receive your return.
We monitor returns to identify customers who violate our return policy by excessively returning products. We reserve the right to revoke our standard return policy in such cases and refuse service altogether.
SECTION 6 - RISK OF LOSS
The risk of loss and title for product(s) purchased by you pass to you upon our delivery of the product(s) to the carrier.
